Explore Our Naturescapes
The focus of the NATURESCAPES project is nature-based solutions from a landscape perspective. We are exploring how this is happening and adding up on the ground, and what it means for nature and society.
Naturescapes Profiles and Database
The NATURESACAPES project has identified and analysed nearly 390 Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) projects spanning 30 functional urban areas (FUAs) worldwide!
Each NBS project was studied to understand the key drivers motivating its implementation, the specific environmental and/or social challenges it aimed to address, its intended beneficiaries, and the diverse social groups the project has affected.
Our analysis also delved into the governance structures, enabling factors behind each project, and their financial characteristics and business models. Furthermore, we examined the wide variety of benefits generated by these NBS interventions and assessed their potential to catalyse transformative change within their respective urban environments.
All studied NBS projects are showcased online in a previously developed database called the Urban Nature Atlas. This freely accessible resource provides detailed information on each NBS project, offering valuable insights into each case and providing a first step for the formulation of thematic naturescapes within the studied FUAs, which explore connections between individual NBS in terms of their spatial, political, financing or cultural links.
Researchers, practitioners, policymakers and NBS enthusiasts can explore the database to learn from real-world examples implemented worldwide.
